Dot Card Bingo

Start with 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s.

1) Review skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s.

2) Give each student a Bingo Card. Files can be downloaded below. Check that each card is a different letter. Place all dot cards face down in the middle of the table in a large pile.

3) Student draws cards and states the multiplication problem on card. All students write the equation on their paper and writes answer if possible. Student who drew card must give answer by either a) counting dots, b) skip counting the dots, or c) simply stating the answer for the multiplication expression.

4) Students place X on number if the number appears on their card. Play continues until student has Bingo. Play can continue until second player has bingo or until blackout.

Strategies for Understanding

The following order is suggested for understanding multiplication:
  1. Multiplication on a Number Line
  2. Arrays
  3. Skip Counting & Songs
  4. Advanced Arrays
  5. Using Known Facts to Determine Unknown Facts

Strategies for Recall

After students have comfortably developed several strategies to determine every multiplication fact, you can use these activities to help improve recall.
  • Multiplication Clue Cards
  • Ghost Cards
  • Dot Card Bingo
  • Games
Note to Teacher/Parent: Even if student can solve multiplication expression, show skip count method so that ALL students are aware of how to arrive at the answer.

Additional rounds: Add multiples of 3’s to the dot cards. Show students how to skip count 3’s by adding three, counting on 3 fingers repeatedly, or singing skip count song. Continue with remaining multiples.
